Body for life to Strength For Life

In 2005 I weighed in at a whopping 303 lbs. I tried diet after diet, which is cliche, but the reason I believe it is cliche is because people generally don't learn WHY they are doing something. Body for life taught me many things, one being belief comes from understanding. I lost over 50lbs in 3 months because my belief was strong and grew more as I continued the process and the reading.

It takes discipline in the beginning but then with the physical transformation the mental transforms as well. You no longer see it as a task, but as a want to eat well and train, notice I didn't say exercise.

For example, the mindset of a vegetarian is they only eat vegetables because.... you fill the blank. It doesn't matter why, but they do it, because they want, I think they are crazy because ribs, chicken and beef are amazing too me. so for me to be a vegetarian for just 3 days, that would take some major discipline.

If someone offered to pay me 50,000 dollars not to eat meat for 3 days, I would be 50k richer, would I call that discipline? No, the end was far greater than the task, that it actually turned into a want for me to not eat meat for 3 days.

Everyone has different motivations, for me it was I missed playing basketball, and I couldn't run up and down the court at that weight.

So 2005 I got as low as 240, 2006 as low as 225, for my wedding i was 223 June 2007. December 2007 I reach 236 after the holiday season. At this point I said lets go to 203lbs, making my lost 100lbs. I did that in 3 months, as planned.

I understand eating, and training to the point I know how much to eat and what weight that would make me over time. It only takes a few articles or on book such as body for life to learn this useful equation.

Four years later, from 303 lbs, I am 217lbs after the holidays. I purposely didn't work out and purposely enjoyed all the fatty and unhealthy foods I could find during the month of December. I probably had 80 cookies in this time period. Truly shocked my body for a month.

MY reason for doing this was to simply relax after a long year, and build the motivation it would take to hit the new year with a purpose. Also in New Jersey/Philly area it is easy to eat UNHEALTHY, in Cali it is easy to eat HEALTHY. Actually eating unhealthy in Cali is like eating healthy in New jersey. Thats another blog that I may never get around to writing.

I am not afraid to say, Body for Life has changed my life, and my perspective on fitness and nutrition. Walking through borders where I usually browse, and then go to amazon and purchase my books, I came across Strength for life. I'm thinking ok lets see what this knockoff on body for life has to offer. As I read, I see it is no knockoff, it is its on quality teaching on training and nutrition, written by Bill Phillips brother, Shawn Phillips.

Over the next 3 months I will be blogging daily-ish on my progress thru, 12 day base camp, into the 12 week challenge.... Robocop training.

I look forward to seeing your daily-ish progress. I think it is amazing the determination you have to change your lifestyle. As you mentioned, many people have a very tough time making the mind-set part of change. It can be very hard to be healthy when it is cheaper and easier to access crappy foods. If more people started purchasing only healthy food maybe we would push the bad out of the market. Supply and demand, I can't believe I just used an economics example. I hated that class! Anyway, I am behind you 100%, here's to Strength for Life!
